چکیده
Brucellosis is an unusual cause of splenic infarction. Only a few cases have been reported worldwide, mostly associated with brucellosis. Herein, we reported a 36-year-old animal-husbandry woman having a splenic infarction associated with brucellosis. She applied to the emergency department with complaints of fever, chills, weight loss, nausea, vomiting and arthralgia. Her laboratory findings included leukopenia, anemia, and elevated liver enzymes. Abdominal computerized tomography revealed splenic infarction. Brucella standard tube agglutination test was 1/160. Brucella melitensis was grown in blood culture in the seventh day of hospitalization. The patient was commenced on doxycycline and streptomycine. J Microbiol Infect Dis 2012;2(4): 168-170

Background: Splenic infarction (SI) is a rare clinical entity seldom encountered in veterinary medicine. Its most frequent causes include thromboembolic status, splenomegaly, and cardiac disease. Although thrombotic elements from the circulation provide the most common context for thromboembolic SIs, immune-mediated hemolytic anemia (IMHA) has not been reported as an underlying...
متن کاملSplenic Infarction in a Case of Acute Promyelocytic Anemia
Splenic infarction occurs due to occlusion of splenic vessels that leads to splenic tissue ischemia and necrosis. There are several reports regarding splenic infarction in patients with acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). Herein, we report a case of acute promyelocytic anemia (AML-M3) who presented with abdominal pain and splenic infarction.

We report a case of a 21-year-old shepherd who presented with fever, left hypochondrium pain and splenomegaly. Blood tests showed thrombocytopenia and high liver enzymes. Computed tomography scan revealed the presence of hypodense lesions suggestive of splenic infarction. Echocardiography was without abnormalities. Laboratory evaluation for thrombophilia was negative. A bone marrow aspiration a...
